💧 Tayammum — Dry Purification التَّيَمُّم

Unit: Taharah & Wudu · Lesson 16 of 50 · study cards + quiz
A mercy from Allah

When water is unavailable, or using it would harm the sick, Islam allows tayammum: purification with clean earth (5:6). The deen never burdens a soul beyond its capacity.

How it is done

Intend purification, say Bismillah, strike the clean earth (or dust on a surface) lightly with both palms, wipe the face, then wipe the hands — right over left. That is all.

Its limits

Tayammum replaces both Wudu and Ghusl while the excuse lasts. As soon as water becomes available and usable, it must be used for future prayers.
