The call to prayer
The adhan announces that the prayer time has entered: "Allahu Akbar… Ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Allah… Hayya alas-Salah… Hayya alal-Falah." Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) was the first muadhin.
Answering the adhan
The sunnah is to repeat after the muadhin — except at "Hayya alas-Salah / alal-Falah", where we say "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah" — then send salawat on the Prophet ﷺ and make the dua of the adhan.
The iqamah
The iqamah is the shorter call said right before the congregation stands to pray. Between the adhan and iqamah is a precious time when dua is not rejected.
