Unit: Salah Step by Step · Lesson 21 of 50 · study cards + quiz
Opening the prayer

Stand facing the qiblah, raise the hands and say "Allahu Akbar" (takbirat al-ihram). Place the right hand over the left on the chest and recite the opening supplication.

Al-Fatihah in every rakah

Recite Surah al-Fatihah — the Prophet ﷺ said there is no prayer for the one who does not recite it — then another surah or verses in the first two rakat.

Bowing with stillness

Say "Allahu Akbar" and bow (ruku) with a straight back, hands gripping the knees, saying "Subhana Rabbiyal-Adheem" three times. Then rise saying "Sami Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal-hamd".
