Every Hifz lesson has two halves, and the second matters more than the first. You recite new material to the teacher, who corrects it. Then you recite older material back — yesterday's, last week's, last month's — because memorization that is not revised drains away almost as fast as it is poured in.
Students who fail at Hifz almost never fail at memorizing. They fail at revising. A good teacher spends as much of the lesson on muraja'a as on new verses, and holds you to it.
Start with Juz Amma, free
Before paying anyone, use what is already here. All thirty-seven surahs of Juz Amma are on this site word by word, with a teaching recitation on every verse and a hide-and-recall mode that blurs the words so you recite from memory and then check yourself. Memorize a surah, tick it off, and watch the progress bar move.
For many people — particularly adults who simply want the surahs they use in prayer — this is enough, and it costs nothing.
When you need someone to hear you
You can memorize alone. What you cannot do alone is catch the letter you have been mispronouncing for six weeks, or hold yourself to a revision schedule when life gets busy.

Can I memorize the Quran online?
Yes. Memorization has always been transmitted by reciting to a teacher who listens and corrects. Whether they sit beside you or appear on a screen changes very little, provided the lesson is one to one and they actually hear you.
How long does Hifz take?
For a committed student memorizing roughly half a page a day with proper revision, the full Quran takes about three to four years. Children in dedicated programmes sometimes finish faster. Memorizing only Juz Amma takes a few months.
Do I need to finish the Quran, or can I memorize only some surahs?
You may memorize as much or as little as you wish. Many adults begin with Juz Amma because those are the surahs they use in prayer. That is a complete and worthwhile goal in itself.
What is muraja'a and why does everyone insist on it?
Muraja'a is scheduled revision of what you have already memorized. Without it, memorization leaks away faster than it is added. A serious Hifz programme spends as much time revising as memorizing new material.
Should my child memorize before understanding Arabic?
This is the traditional order and it works, because a child's memory is at its sharpest long before their comprehension is. Understanding follows, and is deepened by having the text already in the heart.
