What an Ijazah actually is
It is not a diploma you study for and are examined on. It is a testimony. Your teacher listens to you recite the entire Quran, and when satisfied, certifies that you recited it to him as he recited it to his teacher, and so on backwards through named individuals to the Prophet, peace be upon him. What is being transmitted is sound, not text — the text has never been in doubt.
That is why it cannot be granted online by a form, or by an institute you never recited to. Somebody must hear every letter.
Honest prerequisites
Do not begin the Ijazah track because it sounds prestigious. Begin it when your Tajweed is already sound and your recitation is fluent. A student who still confuses the heavy and light letters will spend the first year of an "Ijazah course" doing what a Tajweed course would have done faster and more cheaply.
If you are not sure where you stand, take the free trial lesson and ask directly. We will tell you plainly, even if the answer is "not yet."
Which narration — and which we do not teach
We teach Hafs from Asim, the narration used across most of the Muslim world. Ustadh Muhammad holds Ijazah in Hafs, along with Ijazah in Matn Al-Jazariyyah and Tuhfat al-Atfal, the two foundational Tajweed texts.
We do not teach the Ten Qira'at, and we will not pretend otherwise. He is not authorised in them, and an Ijazah granted by someone without authorisation is worth nothing.
The Ijazah programme
Recitation of the whole Quran to the teacher, from the mushaf or from memory, until it meets the required standard.
Free, and it stays free
Every lesson, game, the full Mushaf and all of Juz Amma cost nothing and always will. Most people never need more than this. There is no trial period, no locked content, and no account to create.

💬 Ask about lessonsCommon questions
What is an Ijazah?
An Ijazah is a licence certifying that you have recited the entire Quran to a teacher, who himself recited it to his teacher, in a chain reaching back to the Prophet, peace be upon him. It authorises you to transmit the recitation onward.
What is required to obtain one?
You must recite the whole Quran to the teacher, accurately and with correct Tajweed, either reading from the mushaf or from memory. It is demanding, and there is no shortcut.
Which narration is taught here?
Hafs from Asim, which is the narration used in most of the Muslim world today. Ustadh Muhammad holds Ijazah in Hafs and teaches to that standard. He does not teach the Ten Qira'at, because he is not authorised in them.
How long does it take?
It depends entirely on the level you begin at. A student who already recites well may need a year of consistent recitation. A student still correcting their Tajweed will need considerably longer, and should not begin the Ijazah track yet.
Is the certificate included in the hourly fee?
No. The hourly rate covers the lessons. The Ijazah certificate itself is charged separately, and we will tell you the cost before you commit.
Can I get an Ijazah in memorization as well as recitation?
Yes — the difference is whether you recite the Quran to the teacher from the mushaf or from memory. The memorization route is longer and harder.
